Screw machining is one of the most important types of precision machining employed in various industries. Advanced screw machines are all compact sized. Thus, the tools don’t have to move far, and the chip-to-chip time is minimized. This is different from traditional machines. Smithfield Prescision Corp is one of the leading screw machining service providers in the U.S. Our facility is equipped with advanced machines that support complex and high-volume screw machining services.
Types of Screw Machining Services Provided by Smithfield Prescision Corp
We are known for providing custom screw machining services. The following machining capabilities have given us a strong presence in this domain:
- Single Spindle Screw Machining: This machining is controlled using single-spindle machines. These machines can be equipped with a wide range of cutting tools to produce precise machined parts.
- Multi-Spindle Screw Machining: This machining is performed with machines equipped with multiple spindles. The machines can be equipped with multiple tools that perform cutting operations efficiently.

Benefits of Screw Machining
The following benefits of this technique have contributed to its immense popularity in various industries:
- Precision: In screw machining, the bar stock is exposed to various stationary parts in the machine. As only a part of the part to be machined is exposed to the bushing, there is only a minimal deflection. This helps make slender, complex, small, yet precision machined parts.
- Tight tolerances can be achieved: The machines use finely-ground bar stocks and tight tolerance bushings which help achieve tight tolerances.
- Supports a wide range of hard and soft materials: Many types of metals can be used easily in screw machines. They include brass, steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum and aircraft aluminum. Screw machining is also suited for plastics such as Delrin, and Nylon.
- Produces Minimal Debris: The screw machine is spun on a rotating lathe, which easily sizes the metal to the desired shape. Additionally, the screw machine is equipped with a disc cam, which is basically a rotating piece that transforms rotary motion into a linear force or vice-versa. The machine uses either of these – multiple spindles or a single spindle. Since the machine operates with collets of close spindles the debris produced is minimal.
- Eliminates the Need for Secondary Operations: A single heavy cut is sufficient to remove all necessary material. Also, the surface finish is excellent. The precise material removed helps eliminate the need for a secondary operation. Most other machines are designed for a single tool. However, screw machines are designed to use 3-4 tools at the same time. A desired action can be easily achieved by improving milling capabilities of Y-axis, and adding boring tools, and drills on the back-tool stations. This helps reduce the time for perfecting the workpiece.
